100% Handmade
Handmade goods are often associated with class and elegance. From watches, shoes, clothing to handbags, wallets etc. These products are often regarded as expensive, luxurious and exude elegance.
Handmade products are the outcome of time put into mastering the craft. The lengthy time usually taken to complete one product is one of the few reasons handmade items are accompanied with a slightly higher price tag compared to the factory produced ones.
Apart from its elegance, these products are often more durable and last longer, which makes the initial investment paying off better than its counterparts in the mass market.
Another benefit of handmade is the possibility of bespoke.
Bespoke
Most, if not all, of handmade products are made to order. Some may come with only a fixed design without any room for customisation, while some, like leather goods, can be crafted with the specifications laid out by the client.
A simple wallet may come with 8 card slots, or 6, depending on request. Or have coins compartments or window slots. The possiblities are limitless and are usually discussed between the craftsman and his client.
Apart from design, material choices can also be selected by the client where allowed. From exotic leathers to embossed patterns used by the fashion houses like Loius Vuitton, Heremes and Prada, down to even the size and colour of threads.
A part of bespoke then leads to personalisation.
Personalisation
Most ateliers offer personalisation of their products. It is an added service and a reason one would go for handmade products.
A client can request for the initials to be embossed. Or a favourite quote in place of their initials. It all boils down to what the client wants and what the atelier can offer.
Without stopping at name stamping, a step further would be custom made embossing.
Custom Embossing
While a tad more expensive than embossing initials, a client may opt for a custom embossing of a logo, or branding. This can be their corporate identity, or can even be their favourite K-pop band group to football clubs.
While more time is required for these options, cost is usually higher as the stamping die is specifically made for that particular item, compared to initials where the alphabets are already ready-made.
With just pieces of hides and thread, possibilities are limited only to the imagination of the master craftsman. However, the works of a master is far more superior and fine compared to that of one who had just picked up the hides and thread.
At Kvell & Bonhomie, we strive to bring the quality and refinements of a handmade leather product to our clients, without the hefty price tag usually associated with the handmade goods of the fashion houses.
